How to prepare for APPSC Group 2 and how to clear Group -2 Screening Test?
APPSC Group -2 Services Exam is a prestigious and a challenging exam at the State-level. Posts in Group -2 include Deputy Tahsildar(DT), Assistant Commercial Tax Officer (ACTO), Municipal Commissioner Grade -III, Sub Registrar etc. All these posts are high entry-level jobs in the State.
In the APPSC Group -2 Examination process, there are two stages:
- Screening Test
- Mains Examination
This is the first-level exam to screen worthy candidates to the next Mains-level. This exam will be of objective type only.
There is only one paper in this exam. It carries 150 questions and 150 marks. There is no negative marking in this exam. A candidate must secure more than 100+ Score in the prelims exam to qualify for the Mains exam.
We will now discuss on how to prepare for APPSC Group 2 exam.
Broadly, Screening Test syllabus can be divided into these categories:
There will be around 20-30 questions asked for the current affairs. It include events and news of Regional, National and International importance.It is the most important topics in the paper as questions in this topic are related with other subjects like Science, Economics and Polity.
How to Prepare for Current Affairs?
- One must essentially read one newspaper daily. Telugu Medium candidates can read Eenaadu or Sakshi. English medium candidates can read Times of India or The Hindu.
- In reading English newspaper, you have to be smart. Read the first and Second page of the paper to check for any important event or incident happened. After this, you can directly go to the Business and Science Page (Generally, newspapers publish this page weekly). After this read the Sports page and concentrate more on sports like Tennis, Badminton. If you are preparing only for Group -2, no need to read editorial page. Editorial page will be helpful only in descriptive type of examinations like Group -1 and Civils.
- Reading any Telugu newspaper is must for all candidates as events related to State importance are covered in Telugu newspapers only.
- Candidates must prepare daily notes from newspapers. You must note down important news items daily.
- It is better to maintain a diary with daily notes, so that you can revise and refer the notes very easily.

It is a main topic for the Screening test. However, only basic questions on Indian Economy will be asked in this paper. NCERT Books on Economics are more than sufficient in answering subject-based questions. You can download these NCERT Economics Text books from here: NCERT Economics Text Books
Candidate must prepare the latest statistics on various aspects like Poverty, Unemployment, Growth rate, Census related aspects etc, as direct questions from these topics can be asked in the exam.

It is another important topic of Screening Test. Around more than 50 questions can be expected from this topic in the Screening Test. Hence, this topic will decide the fate of the candidates. However, only basic questions can be expected in the paper.
Candidates must prepare important features of Indian Constitution, Government programs and policies. Candidates must also prepare for important Andhra Pradesh Government’s programs and policies.

In AP Polity, candidates must prepare for latest and important government programs and policies. You can also read AP SCERT Social studies textbooks.

Geography topic is not explicitly mentioned in the Screening test syllabus. However, Human geography topics such as Population and Economic Geography topics like Agriculture are mentioned in the syllabus, Therefore, for the screening test you can mainly focus on these topics. You can postpone other topics to the Mains test. Reading NCERT books on Geography will cover will suffice for these two topics for the exam.
Moreover, 2011 census and its important aspects like Child Sex Ratio, Female Ratio, Literacy Ratio, Urban-Rural Population Ratio, etc for overall country, Top -5 and Bottom -5 states in the country and for Andhra Pradesh must be remembered.

In this topic, focus must be on current affairs related information like ISRO Satellite launches, Missile Launches, Mangalyaan, Chandrayaan Programmes, Latest Prizes and other scientific developments etc, .
However, candidates must read AP SCERT Text books on General Science, Biology, Physics and Chemistry from Class 6 to Class 10 to get basic understanding of this subject. These books are very easy to understand for everyone.
English Medium candidates can also NCERT textbooks on Science.

Reading these textbooks will suffice in answering subject-based questions in the exam.

There will be some 10-15 questions only from this topic. Hence, this topic should be given least priority compared with other subjects.
Candidate must focus mainly on Economic aspects of Medieval and Modern Indian History for Screening test, as in Screening test syllabus, APPSC has mentioned about Economy in Medieval India and Pre-independence period. For other aspects of history, you can postpone it to the Mains test.

Current Affairs related questions will be asked from this subject. International events and conferences on environment protection like UNDP, Sustainable Development Goals, UNFCCC meetings must be prepared as direct questions can be asked from these.
Practicing What You have Read:
It is the most important step in the preparation process. Practice is that line which separates the successful persons from others.Without good practice, it is impossible to clear to the exam. candidates must practice various previous year questions and model questions.
You must practice all previous question papers from 2005, 2008, 2011 and 2012. Some questions will be repeated always from the previous papers. Even if some 5 questions were repeated, that will give you an extra advantage compared to other, if you practice all past papers.
